Scores of revellers in more than 30 J’Ouvert bands paraded through the streets of Point Fortin to celebrate the Borough’s 43rd anniversary yesterday.
The highly anticipated event was heavily manned by tactical officers from the Defence Force and other special units within the protective service.
Fire breathers, blue devils, iron men, and other individuals moved to the judging point at Richardson Street and along Adventure Road to the Victor Chin Kit Park and along Market Square before completing the full route.
Mayor Saleema Thomas also attended the celebrations which began at 4.30 am. Fashionably attired in a swimsuit, she commended the Point Fortin Borough planning committee for the success of the J’Ouvert.

The mayor, who did not play with any particular band, said, “This is exactly what we wanted, the bands I presented myself to this morning were accident and incident free, and they were all having a lot of fun. I encourage people to come and have a safe and clean Borough Day celebrations.”
The celebrations came three years after the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world. This year’s activities include the Mayor’s Charity All-Inclusive Legacy Event, Civic Reception and Awards Ceremony, Individual Iron Rhythm, Reflections, Stick Fighting, Junior and Soca Monarchs, the Military Parade, and Primary and Secondary Schools’ competitions.
