The calypso musical ‘Sing de Chorus’ opens on Thursday at 8 pm at the Central Bank Auditorium in Port-of-Spain with a cast of 30, backed by live music.
Among the cast are several calypsonians including Krisson Joseph, son of the legendary “Penguin”, Seadley Joseph. He takes the role of ‘Saga’, a macho, ebullient calypsonian who has just returned to the yard from abroad.
He is the one with the business eye who sees the possibility of making money in an environment of poverty and exploitation.
Sing De Chorus is written by Rawle Gibbons and directed by Louis McWilliams and presented jointly by Canboulay Productions and the Lloyd Best Institute of the West Indies.
The play features a calypso repertoire from the late 1930s and into the early 1940s, all backed by the live music of Marva Newton and the La Cou Kaiso Band. It runs at the Central Bank from today until Sunday and again next weekend, from Friday until Sunday. All shows are at 8 pm except for Sunday when the curtain rises at 6 pm. Tickets are available at the Central Bank box office from noon until 6 pm.
Sing De Chorus moves to Naparima Bowl, San Fernando for performances on October 19th at 8pm and October 21st at 6 pm before going to Tobago for the finale weekend of Calypso History Month.
