Dr John Prince, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Information Technology Centre Ltd (ITC), of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), has described as historic, San Fernando's launch of its Web site, facebook fan page and a 2-1-1 contact service centre on Tuesday. "Who would have thought that history would have been made between Tobago and San Fernando. "Usually it is between Tobago and Port-of-Spain but history has been created between two leaders," Prince said at the City Hall Auditorium.
"Many times, in a lot of cases, ideas are put forward but people vacillates," he said. He explained that several months ago, all of the 14 regional corporations were given an opportunity to initiate this 2-1-1 toll- free project, which was initiated in Tobago. "All at the same time but only one corporation started it," Prince said. Citizens who required information or desired action for issues which fell under the ambit of the corporation can now call 2-1-1 and have their concerns dealt with. To further bolster this services, citizens, as well as visitors, locally and internationally, can access the official Web site www.sancity.org for information about the city, events, photos and the elected representatives, some past and present.
Not forgetting the younger demographic, the city's in-house communications department has established a Facebook fan page, which not only provides information, but allows for feed-back. San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray who launched these initiatives, the first of its kind in Trinidad, said they would enable members of the public to access and monitor the services. She said it was all part of the "change" enunciated by the Government in delivering on its promises. Cornelius Price, representative of the Minister of Local Government, said they were pleased with San Fernando's initiative.Acting chief executive officer Deodath Ragoobar said the system promised to make life easier for citizens.
