Sangre Grande pedestrian struck and killed by suspected drunk driver

RALPH BAN­WARIE 

A 58-year-old man from San­gre Grande was struck and killed by a car last night. 

The vic­tim is Al­dol­phus Mar­tinez of Park Av­enue Road 1 North­east­ern Set­tle­ment, San­gre Grande. 

Po­lice re­port­ed around 7:45 pm on Fri­day night, Mar­tinez was walk­ing along  Ojoe Road, San­gre Grande when he was hit by the left side of a car near lp#38.  He died at the scene.

Of­fi­cers ar­rived at the scene and in­ter­viewed the 42-year-old dri­ver, who was al­so from San­gre Grande. 

He was tak­en to the San­gre Grande Po­lice Sta­tion, how­ev­er, while record­ing his state­ment, the of­fi­cers said they de­tect­ed a strong stench of al­co­hol on his breath. He was then tak­en to the Tu­na­puna Po­lice Sta­tion where of­fi­cers there con­duct­ed a breath­a­lyz­er test.  He was found to be be­yond the le­gal lim­it.

Of­fi­cers of the San­gre Grande Po­lice Traf­fic Branch are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
