Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley says that all schools will remain closed until the start of the third school term, April 20.

He made the announcement at a news conference following a special meeting of the Cabinet Monday morning.

Schools were initially closed for one week before the extension was announced.

The prime minister also appealed to private school owners to also shut their doors, saying that the aim is to reduce gatherings.

The prime minister also called on churches to stop congregating, saying that as long as people congregate the chance of the virus spreading will be increased.

He told the media that bars will also be shut down.

This is a developing story and we will have more on it later.
