Part of the Beetham Highway was closed to vehicular traffic earlier today to facilitate the installation of the long-awaited walkover at Sea Lots.
The exercise which took place during the mid-morning led to a massive traffic gridlock for motorists entering and exiting the capital.
Motorists were later advised by officials of the Ministry of Works and Transport that the portion of the Priority Bus Route from the Port-of-Spain Abbatoir to the Mt Hope Intersection would be opened to light vehicles only, until further notice.
Port-of-Spain South MP Marlene McDonald turned the sod for the walkover in 2017, during which it was claimed that the 48-metres long walkover would be the longest in Trinidad.
Sea Lots resident, 28-year-old Haydee Paul, and her two daughters Akasha, seven, and Shakira, eight were killed after a car ploughed into them as they walked along the westbound lane of the Beetham Highway in 2013.
