A seaman was found dead in a vessel that docked in the Port of Port-of-Spain which sailed from Suriname.
The incident unfolded aboard the container vessel, BBC Singapore.
A police report stated around 4:30 pm, an official at Alston's Shipping received a distressing call from the vessel's captain. The captain reported that Lakunin Oleksandr, a 37-year-old cook on the ship, was found unresponsive after being seen intoxicated during their departure from Suriname at 7 am on Saturday.
Upon receiving the report, CPL Ramoutar and PC Cox visited the vessel.
They found Oleksandr’s quarters ransacked, with the deceased lying nude on a bed, bearing marks of violence on his right arm and face.
Investigations are continuing.
