Tack­ling the top­ics of Teen Preg­nan­cy and Cy­ber Bul­ly­ing, teams of stu­dents of Ser­vol’s Point Fortin Re­gion­al Life Cen­tre took home the top two prizes when they won Ideathon, a com­pe­ti­tion host­ed by Glass Wings In­ter­na­tion­al and Citi Bank’s Citi Foun­da­tion.

Nigel For­ge­nie, the coun­try man­ag­er of Glass­wings, said the con­test al­lows for stu­dents to present their ideas us­ing so­cial me­dia to tack­le is­sues af­fect­ing young peo­ple as cy­ber bul­ly­ing, crime, drug abuse, teenage preg­nan­cy and sui­cide.

Speak­ing at the La Ro­main Life Cen­tre, San Fer­nan­do, on Thurs­day, he said par­tic­i­pants pre­sent­ed pro­pos­als to tack­le these is­sues over so­cial me­dia to a pan­el of judges who then se­lect­ed the top three so­lu­tions.

The win­ning teams will be fund­ed to the sum of $1000 each to car­ry out these projects.

He said 101 stu­dents from four ser­vol cen­tres in El Soc­cor­ro, Barataria, La Ro­main and Point Fortin par­tic­i­pat­ed in the pro­gramme.
