Tobago shark victim Peter Smith has left the island. Sources told Guardian Media that he was lifted out via medical evacuation, last evening to Miami for continued care.
Smith was attacked by what is believed to be a bull shark while bathing about ten metres from shore at Courland Bay last Friday.
He sustained severe injuries which included a laceration on the stomach, damage to his left hand and thigh as well as tissue damage.
Before leaving the island, Smith’s wife Joanne Smith, in a BBC report yesterday thanked Tobago and the friends who were on site to fight the shark off.
Smith, a British national who was a guest at the Starfish Resort Tobago was expected to leave Tobago on the day of the incident.
Following the attack, ten beaches on the island were restricted for bathing and all marine activities until further notice.
