Tenders to commence rehabilitation work on the Perseverance Road River Bridge, Chaguanas would close on Monday. This was announced by Senator Richie Sookhai, Minister in the Ministry of Works and Transport, on Friday night when he addressed the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CCIC) business mixer function at the Passage to Asia Restaurant, Chaguanas.
The northern and southern ends of the bridge collapsed and have since caused massive traffic jams coming in and out of Chaguanas.
Sookhai said tenders to undertake repair of the bridge have gone out and should close in the coming week. Sookhai said he expects the situation to regularize before the start of the new school term.
He said “A solution will be rolled out in the next couple of weeks and we would have a solution to that shortly. When it comes to the traffic we have been working with all the stakeholders and we will develop an appropriate plan going forward.”
