It may have been a Christmas miracle for a St James man who survived being shot after a bullet passed through his chest and back.
Police said the 51-year-old man was on his way home after attending a family get together on Christmas Eve when he was shot by a bandit who attempted to rob him.
The St James resident was reportedly driving in an alley leading off Majuba Cross Road, Diego Martin, around 10 pm on December 24, when his car was blocked by an unknown vehicle.
It is alleged that a suspect walked up to him and demanded he hand over his gold chain, and as the victim sped off in his car, the suspect fired several shots at him.
Realising he had been shot in the back, the victim drove to his home and alerted his 46-year-old wife.
A neighbour then took the couple to the St Clair Medical Centre where he was treated for a single gunshot wound to the right side of the back.
The bullet which pierced the victim’s back and exited through the right side of his chest, was lodged in his right upper arm.
The man underwent emergency surgery and was listed in stable condition at hospital. Police are searching for the suspect.
