S&S Persad Supermarket founder Leela Persad will be remembered not for her success or supermarket chain but for her humility and loving nature.
During her funeral service at Sunset Beach Resort in Mayaro on Sunday, hundreds of relatives, friends, employees and well-wishers turned out to pay their final respects to a woman who was well-loved and respected in the region.
One of her nieces eulogised her as a genuine and gentle individual who cared for people, regardless of their station in life.
“Despite all her success and businesses, she was always humble and treated everyone with kindness and respect.”
She said her aunt was full of love and held no hate in her heart.
Her niece said she always encouraged people to be humble and treat everyone equally, with love and show forgiveness, no matter their position.
Mayaro MP Rushton Paray was among several people who paid tribute during Persad’s funeral service.
Describing her as a remarkable woman, he said her absence was deeply felt by all who knew her.
“Her indomitable spirit, boundless generosity, and unwavering commitment to her community will be deeply missed. Her life’s work stands as a testament to the extraordinary difference one individual can make,” he noted.
Paray added that she left a legacy of resilience, compassion, and community service.
Persad, 68, passed away on July 16.
She was cremated at the Mafeking Cremation site.
