The Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) currently is investigating what may have caused yesterday’s fire at the Beetham Landfill and has assured it will be providing updates on the situation when possible.

A statement issued by the company reports that the fire started at approximately 6 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, and was confined to the southeastern end of the Beetham Landfill.

“SWMCOL’s Emergency Management Team (EMT) worked throughout the night to ensure that the fire was contained,” the release stated.

It added: “Notwithstanding, we are advising individuals with respiratory conditions and those who work and reside in the vicinity to exercise caution, as we investigate the cause of the fire.”
