In a series of operations over the past 24 hours, officers from the Southern Division have made three arrests, seized a firearm and ammunition, and recovered a stolen vehicle.
The TTPS says between 8 am and 4 pm on 9th September 2024, the Southern Division Task Force (SDTF) conducted an intelligence-led exercise in Ridgewood Gardens, Golconda, San Fernando.
During this operation, officers intercepted a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old man from Mon Repos.
The officers searched the vehicle and reportedly found a 9mm Beretta semi-automatic pistol and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The firearm and ammunition were seized, and the driver was arrested.
Later, from 8 pm to 2 am, officers from the
San Fernando Police Station carried out an anti-crime exercise in the San Fernando and La Romaine districts. While patrolling Potato Street, La Romaine, they stopped a Nissan Tiida driven by a 30- 30-year-old man from Battoo Avenue, Marabella. The driver was unable
to produce a valid driving permit. He was arrested and charged with driving without a permit and without a valid certificate of insurance.
During the same operation, officers also stopped a black Nissan panel van driven by a 32-year-old man from Wallerfield, Arima.
Upon request, the driver refused to provide his driver's permit and certificate of insurance. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was fitted with false identification plates and had been reported stolen in Aranguez on 3rd September 2024. The vehicle was seized, and the driver was arrested and is currently assisting with further enquiries.
