The allure of Tobago’s beaches has already enticed people to spend their Easter weekend soaking in the sun, sand and sea.
Slovakian Martin Mahat and his family were among beachgoers at Store Bay on Friday when Guardian Media visited.
Their trip to the country was inspired by his youngest daughter.
“When she learnt names of American states, she can’t remember this name–Trinidad and Tobago altogether. So when she can’t remember we just thought okay, let’s go here (and) explore,” he said.
Together they will spend 15 days in the country– eight days in Tobago and seven in Trinidad.
He describes his experience as “awesome” as he said he enjoyed the atmosphere of the country, especially as he believes it’s not overly heavy with tourists.
“So it has the atmosphere of the real nature and local life. It’s really better with not too much tourists,” he said.
On the family’s travel list for this year is Milano, Barcelona, and Honduras among others.
Also at Store Bay was former national cricketer Rajendra Mangalie. He said he was on the island for some cricket games.
“There is this T10 tournament that is taking place in Tobago right now...and today is the final and what happen, there is a THA game that is taking place this evening between some of the guys from Trinidad and THA committee,” he said.
Once they are completed, he said he will be staying until Sunday to enjoy the island.
Over at Mt Irvine Beach was Leandro Grant. He was building a bonfire for a wedding scheduled for this weekend.
“This fire is for this evening. It takes about an hour (to build),” he said.
He said visitors often enjoy the bonfire’s ambience. It’s the first one he’s building since the pandemic hit.
