A 62-year-old woman, of Bon Ac­cord, To­ba­go, is the third death due to COVID-19.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease from the To­ba­go Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty, the woman, who al­so had co­mor­bidi­ties suc­cumbed to COVID-19 re­lat­ed symp­toms on Sun­day.

A close rel­a­tive of the de­ceased said both the COVID-19 di­ag­no­sis and the pass­ing took the en­tire fam­i­ly by sur­prise.

They said the woman, who had a pre-ex­ist­ing med­ical con­di­tion, had been ail­ing for some time and was there­fore re­strict­ed to her home.

Ac­cord­ing to the rel­a­tive ex­ces­sive care was tak­en to en­sure that she was not ex­posed to virus, how­ev­er the de­ceased was ad­mit­ted to the hos­pi­tal late last month and she was be­ing treat­ed in the In­ten­sive Care Unit.

The rel­a­tive said the woman was swabbed last week and di­ag­nosed with COVID-19 hours be­fore she died.

The rel­a­tive said that im­me­di­ate fam­i­ly mem­bers were sub­se­quent­ly swabbed and are cur­rent­ly await­ing re­sults.

The last time the is­land record­ed a death was in Sep­tem­ber last year when a 57-year-old woman of Scar­bor­ough who al­so had pre-ex­ist­ing health con­di­tions died. The is­land’s first fa­tal­i­ty was record­ed in April of last year, when a 70- year old male of Mo­ri­ah with pre-ex­ist­ing health con­di­tions died at the Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.
