Tobago police have described the recent discovery of the burnt remains of Deborah Gopaul in Lowlands on Tuesday night as an unclassified death, not murder. The island’s murder count remains at six for the year.
Police saw a black Mazda on fire on the south side of the Claude Noel Highway near the “Welcome to Canaan/ Bon Accord” sign. On checking they found Gopaul, of John Gormon Trace, Crown Point, slumped over the steering wheel. She was dressed only in a white T-shirt and underwear.
Fire officers managed to extinguish the fire. Two containers of a liquid propellant were found at the feet of the partially burnt body.
A district medical officer ordered the body removed to the Scarbrough General Hospital an autopsy is carded for some time next week.
Attempts to get comments from Gopaul’s relatives were unsuccessful.
