A three-year-old girl was being treated at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex yesterday after she was shot in the hand while walking home on Thursday afternoon.
A police report said that the toddler and her 22-year-old father were walking along Sogren Trace, Laventille, at 2.50 pm when someone opened fire in their direction.
The child’s father ran to safety and later realised that his daughter was shot in the right hand.
She was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where she was treated and transferred to the paediatric facility at the EWMSC.
Contractor shot dead working on house
Police have identified a man shot dead in Carapo on Thursday as Thomas John, a contractor who lived in the area.
Investigators said John, 56, of Simon Road, was approached by a gunman and shot in the head and upper body around noon.
At the time of the shooting, John was working on a house at Ambrose Drive, Unity Lane, Carapo.
Police recovered around twelve 9 mm spent shell casings at the scene.
Officers were still trying to determine a motive for John’s murder.
