The Trinidad and Tobago Gazette No. 1 of 2025 has announced the establishment of a new Review Tribunal to address appeals and disputes arising under specific legal frameworks.
This Tribunal will ensure impartial review and resolution of cases in line with statutory requirements.
The appointed members, selected for their expertise, will oversee proceedings and provide decisions aimed at maintaining justice and transparency in administrative matters.
The members appointed are Deborah Peake SC, Ian Benjamin SC and Lee Merry SC.
The Tribunal which has been established pursuant to section 11 (1) of the Constitution of Trinidad and Tobago, and paragraph 5 (2) of the second schedule of the Emergency Powers Regulations 2011, is to review the case of any person, if he or she so requests, who is under preventative detention during the period of public emergency.
The Emergency Powers Regulations 2011 vest the Minister of National Security with power to make detention orders. The tribunal is empowered to regulate its own procedure.
In addition to this announcement, the Gazette detailed promotions within the Defence Force. Lieutenant (N) Dane Khan of the Coast Guard had promotion dates adjusted, and Flying Officers Kevern Morrison and Kyle Bacchus of the Air Guard were promoted to Flight Lieutenant, effective August 1, 2024.
