Some Trinibad artiste have decided to take a 90-day hiatus from releasing music, effective today.
This, their record label “The Going Global Team” said, is their social contribution to the fight against crime.
“The Going Global along with the general public recognises the recent upsurge of crime and violence in our country,” the label wrote in a media release.
Going Global said their members recognise the upsurge of crime in the country and while they don’t support the narrative that their music is partly responsible for some elements of the crime wave, they believe that the lyrical content of music can influence the thoughts of listeners.
“Trinibad music is produced solely for entertainment purposes,” the release said.
According to the record label, they unanimously agree that better can be done with the lyrical components of the songs and in the next 90 days, will release three Trinigood Extended Plays (EPS) along with other positive music.
“#DOITFORTRINIDADCAMPAIGN that infiltrates our local music industry with positive messages,” the release said.
One artiste who work with the label is Young Star 6ixx, who recently released a song (Bereaved) in memory of his colleague Wacko Dan, who was murdered earlier this month in St Ann’s, Port-of-Spain.
One Trinibad artist, Kalonji, was injured and his girlfriend Bridget James murdered in September last year, after gunmen shot at their car at the Brix hotel.
Going Global added that the hiatus will also possibly prohibit their artiste from earning income, as they observed that positive lyrics in music were not lucrative. They also asked members of the public to share solutions on how they can keep the music positive and still earn an income going forward.
“We would like to thank all our supporters of our music thus far and encourage you to support our Trinigood EP that will be launched soon, as we together to do better for our artiste and our country,” the release said.
