President of the TT Cricket Board (TTCB) and VP of Cricket West Indies, Azim Bassarath says all stakeholders need to come on board to produce quality cricketers.
Bassarath was at the time addressing the prize-giving function of Ramlagans Balmain Literary United Cricket Club at the TTCB headquarters at Balmain, Couva on Saturday.
Bassarath said more passionate players are needed to raise the bar. “It is something that no cricket board alone can do, we need the help of every stakeholder at Cricket WI and also at the TTCB to ensure that we can produce the quality of cricketers that were produced in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. We cannot do it alone.
The number of distractions we have now, we didn’t have in those eras and of course, if we get more passionate people who are coming to the game I am quite sure that we will be able to turn out another Brian Lara, another Vivian Richards, those great superstars that who CWI and WI Cricket have produced," he said.
Bassarath also said the TTCB is doing a lot of work to boost the skills of players.
