With 1,083 operations under its belt, the T&T Police Service (TTPS) reports that it is making inroads with its current crime fighting initiatives.

And according to TTPS Media Ambassador, ASP Owie Russell, there has been a significant decline in the number of murders by almost half, when compared with the same period in 2024.

ASP Russell admits that there still is room for improvement but notes that that the Police Service is making some gains with its crime fighting efforts this year.

“For the same period last year, we had already been at 34 murders.  For this year, we are at just around 18 murders, so far,” ASP Russell points out.

“Eighteen murders are too much,” he asserts, “and we are working on getting things to a point where we even have zero murders.  So, we continue to work on it and do our exercises.”

ASP Russell also encourages members of the public to ‘say something if you see something’, and to go about their daily lives with the understanding that the SOE is targeted at the criminal element.

“Once you are not a part of those engaged in criminal activity,” he says, “we encourage you to go about your daily lives, and also to share information you may have with the Police Service.”

The TTPS Media Ambassador was guest on today’s edition of CNC3’s The Morning Brew show.
