The T&T Police Service has given the assurance that all security measures are in place at the Divali Nagar site in Endeavour, Chaguanas.
The assurance was given by acting Commissioner of Police Erla Christopher in a media release issued by the TTPS’ corporate communications unit yesterday.
“All necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety and security of visitors to the Divali Nagar site, located at Narsaloo Ramaya Road, Endeavour, Chaguanas,” Christopher said.
“The highly anticipated event is expected to attract thousands of visitors from throughout the country, and as such officers of the Central Division have made the necessary security and traffic arrangements to ensure the successful hosting of the event,” she added.
The nine-day celebration began without incident on Saturday and continues until October 23. An estimated 3,000 people were in attendance on Saturday, according to the TTPS, and the numbers are expected to increase in the lead-up to the Divali holiday celebrations.
The TTPS said it is ready to deal with any incidents that may arise from hosting large crowds at such an event.
The celebration begins daily from 4 pm to midnight and on the last day is expected to run until 1 am.
