The Opposition UNC will be opening nominations for Local Government elections ahead following a decision at the next UNC National Executive meeting, says UNC leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Persad-Bissessar spoke about the nomination plans at last night’s UNC Monday night forum.
The UNC’s National Executive (Natex) will decide on a date for opening nominations. Local Government polls are due within 90 days after December 2.
“Rowley your political days are numbered, we’re coming for you and we’ll not stop until we get you out of office!” she declared.
Persad-Bissesar said in the coming weeks the UNC will also reconvene Parliamentary arm meetings - halted due to COVID-19 restrictions - as well as hold constituency executive polls, Women and Youth arms elections and National Executive elections.
“These are due and now is the time for this. To all comers, manos a manos, I’ll take on all comers and will beat every one of them.”
The executive team Persad-Bissessar led in the 2020 Natex elections, won. UNC’s leadership election is expected in 2023.
Persad- Bissessar also said T&T is becoming a Gestapo “police state” and the only way to fight it is “unite and fight them.”
Other speakers including MP Dr Roodal Moonilal and Senator Wade Mark echoed the unity calls.
Moonilal said the UNC is within striking distance of Government.
“We’re not depending on anybody to get seats, we will win two and more, keep the unity and hold together. Let us band together!”
Mark said the “Sun” is rising again. Persad-Bissessar said the “troops are gathering and the “storm clouds and UNC is ready to take them on any time.
Among criticisms of the government she said it was shameful that on the day school is reopening, the fuel price hike which Government recently announced, will begin, “I implore you to give a one-time uniform grant so parents won’t have to choose between giving their children food or uniforms,” she appealed.
Moonilal in his address claimed Government “privatised” the Director of Public Prosecutions’ office by hiring the UK’s Edmonds, Marshall and McMahon firm to direct TTPS to “go after” Government’s opponents and the ex-Police Commissioner had alerted that money was passed to TTPS for this.
But he said whistleblower reports from the probes showed things were not looking “bright” with the investigations, no PP Government official was likely “to be available for prosecution” in issues like EMBDC and Lifesport, but one issue could ‘involve a person of significant political influence,’ so they came on a political witchhunt!”
Moonilal said his lawyers will alert the Director of Public Prosecutions of the “high state political campaign” by the UK firm being done for Government in the name of fighting white-collar crime and will write UK’s Law Society to complain of the covert role played by the UK lawyers.
Moonilal said earlier this year, coming through a US airport, two law enforcement officers approached him, saying they’d noted developments in T&T and interviewed him for two hours on “Rowley’s conduct.”
The UNC’s Anil Robert accused UNC MP Bhoe Tewarie of “joining PNM” after Tewarie criticised Persad-Bissessar’s plans. He said Tewarie had been UNC’s Planning Minister. Roberts also slammed Vasant Bharath, “Go in peace, Vasant...”
