Veteran photographer Russell 'Butch' Lim Choy, 73, passed away at the family home, in St James, on Saturday morning.
Lim Choy's nephew, Robert, posted on Facebook about his beloved uncle, a renowned photographer, who was responsible for capturing and documenting so many memories for thousands of people over the years—from calendars to Carnival, family photoshoots to corporate events, and especially weddings.
Robert said he was so happy that Lim Choy was able to take the photographs at his wedding with both of his brothers, Peter and Allan, and three years later, that he was able to meet his first great-niece.
He said his uncle will be greatly missed, for his dry sense of humour, gruff but kindly nature, willingness to speak his mind when good advice was sorely needed, and his unshakeable faith in God Almighty.
Speaking to Guardian Media about his uncle, photographer Peter Lim Choy said "Butch was an inspiration and influence in my life. We did different types of photography, I worked events, he was more like weddings, portraits, television work.
"I tagged along at weddings with him for years. He was a huge influence in my life, not necessarily only photography-wise.
"He'll be greatly missed, he was a wonderful teacher. Butch was always a very warm and generous person.
"He was always teaching up and coming photographers, hosted photography workshops, and he shared his knowledge with me.
"He probably wasn't the reason why I started photography, but once I got into it; he was a great resource to improve, learn and to be mentored by him."
Lim Choy was a member of the Fui Toong On Association of T&T.
Funeral arrangements are still to be confirmed.
