The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media that appears to show a WASA driver asleep at the wheel of an official, marked vehicle.

"We take this matter seriously and have initiated a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident," the agency said in a media release.

WASA gave its commitment to maintaining high safety and professionalism standards, noting that while many employees work demanding shifts, any behaviour that violates protocols will be "addressed promptly and appropriately."

The video shows a man recording a WASA van parked in the road with the engine running. While widely shared it does not give a location, although it appears to be Mucurapo Road.

The video ends before it's known if anyone woke up or checked on the driver. WASA's release didn't give any additional information either.
