The Water and Sewerage Authority is assuring Beetham Gardens residents that it is working closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure the current sewer overflow issue is resolved in the shortest possible time.
In an advisory, WASA explains that the sewer overflows in the area of 24th Street in Beetham Gardens developed following the demolition of a building in the area, which resulted in the exposure of the sewer collection pipeline.
“Investigations revealed the end cap of the exposed pipeline was not in place, allowing for overflows in the environment, WASA said. “This situation was further exacerbated by recent rainfall and increased storm water in the sewer system, resulting in overflows via the exposed pipeline.”
WASA assures it will “continue to conduct the necessary pump down activity to reduce the overflows, whilst the authorities associated with the property make the necessary arrangements to properly cap the exposed pipeline.”
