The public’s help is being sought to identify the body of a woman found at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain, on Monday evening.
The semi-nude corpse was discovered around 6.30 pm near the cricket nets close to the Paddock.
The victim, who is of African descent, and believed to be in her late teens, was dressed only in a pink top. Her underwear and remaining garments were found strewn near her body, while her weave was ripped off and tossed nearby.
Officers from the Port-of-Spain Divisional Task Force supervised by acting Senior Supt Alexander and Supt Ramsook along with ASP Walker and Sgt Alexander and found the victim’s body on the western side of the enclosed cricket nets in a crouched position on the grass, partially hidden behind a rusty metal barrel.
Senior police officers assured the public that all efforts are being made to identify the victim.
Meanwhile, they urged people to remain vigilant when out and to contact the T&T Police Service (TTPS) if they notice anything suspicious.
Officers declined to say whether the victim had been attacked while exercising at the Savannah, or if it appeared that she had been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the location.
Oficers from the Homicide Region 1 under the supervision of Insp Lynch are continuing investigations.
In a similar incident in 2016, the body of 30-year-old Japanese steelpan player Asami Nagakiya was found in the Savannah by workers who were cleaning the area following the two-days of Carnival revelry. She had been strangled and her body covered with dried leaves and branches.
In March 2021, Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard announced the closure of the case as he claimed Nagakiya’s killer, David Allen, had been killed by police in December 2016. (ALP)
