Dr Keith Rowley and his government have done a tremendous job in containing COVID-19 in Trinidad and Tobago, and for this they deserve a huge amount of credit. One of the things they did right was not follow the passive and reactive approach of the US government. Instead, our government was proactive and that is a major reason why we were spared the full brunt of the pandemic.
The same proactive approach is needed now in dealing with the rioters.
These individuals are following a global trend where lawless people are protesting the police killings of known criminals in an attempt to defend their evil way of life. For some arcane reason, the cause of these protesters seems to resonate with the uncritical masses, especially the younger populace.
I think I speak for the majority of Trinidadians when I say “we do not want that in Trinidad.” These criminals have destabilised our country for far too long, and the majority of Trinidadians do not support their lawless cause. The vast majority of Trinidadians support the police and law enforcement. We want peace in our country. Please do what is in the best interest of the majority of law abiding citizens.
This is another example were we should not adopt the feeble approach of the US government. They have been passive and powerless in dealing with their lawless rioters, and that is why there is so much unrest in their country. I urge the powers-that-be in Trinidad to deal with this in a manner that does not provide encouragement for other potential lawless rioters to wreak more havoc in other parts of the country. Please send a message and deal with them decisively.
