Viewing the Parliament Channel: The Senate 03/06/2020. The impression of unnecessary rudeness displayed by Opposition Senator Tarharqua Obika to the President of the Senate, Christine Kangaloo, is one of misplaced arrogance and a tiny idea of this Senator not even liking females in high office.
Read my lips, Sir. The Opposition leader, Kamla Persad-Bissesser has placed you there to perform a function that will be of use to her party, sir, ot to gallery. The United National Congress is hugely in need of more Afro-Trini faces/support in their line up for elections 2020. Senator Obika has been asked to leave the Senate sitting before. Once is a small political mistake. Twice, in the space of months, not years, is the size of a beef steak. Image is everything. Read my lips again, Senator Obika. The UNC could do without the showing off. You could lose some female voters just because of your attitude to President Kangaloo. Get used to the idea that women can rule.
In daily life and in politics, ‘Manners maketh the man.’ In T&T we have a horrible reputation regarding domestic violence against females. Political domestic violence cannot also be on the cards.. The United National Congress is promising T&T new and young talent. If Senator Obika is the best that is on offer, Crapaud smoke the UNC pipe.
I will say it again, for both Government and Opposition aspirants. Your political party, as an entity, is supposed to be bigger than the individual. The electorate will choose.
Each aspirant, on both sides of the political divide, must ask his/herself : By my actions, am I an expensive political liability? .
In T&T we use the United Kingdom Westminster style for our elections. When you lose, you cry for five years.
Winner takes all.
