Our politics in T&T is one of “towing the line” —if I say so just follow the leader. It is not about professional integrity, personal ethics or even moral persuasion.
Therefore, I say to the former Minister of Public Utilities Mr Le Hunte, much respect for your actions and the way it was done.
You have surely displayed a high level of class and excellence as a leader and in my opinion you did your best with what you had at your disposal while leading that ministry.
I hope that all our politicians and leaders in general will learn from your action—if you believe in something and stand by it despite what may be the consequences. Not everyone has the belly to do this or see that doing what may be right comes before party or organisation affiliation. This is where you separate the men from the boys and the women from the girls.
Deceased reggae super star Bob Marley did say in one of his songs, “Get up, Get up stand up for your right, don’t give up the fight”, you did exactly that and I am sure thousands of citizens will appreciate this. There will always be those who will try discredit your actions—they are simply followers, not leaders. I do wish you the best in your endeavours in serving the people, for this is why you were put there.
All respect to you.
