One thing I enjoyed most about stay -at-home was the absolute peace and quiet of our suburbs as there was practically zero commuter traffic during first two months.
Even neighbourhood dogs were silent amazingly, as we all remained home bound.
No noisy bars in the distance or extremely loud music emanating from those errant “PH” vehicles, the latter quite often rocking our home foundations with its deafening raucous sounds and so preventing our ability to hear TV/news/carry on telephone conversations or study or have peaceful sleep in what was once quiet suburban neighbourhood before local traffic diversion brought this traffic noise through our neighbourhood.
With the arrival of “PH” drivers culture, lawlessness of noise pollution for which neither TTPS nor EMA seem to be able to address... despite traffic laws about “No noisy vehicles that disturb” or EMA noise pollution.
I would therefore request that the post-COVID norm also include most stringent enforcement for noise pollution from both PH/commuter vehicle traffic as well as bars/events in Surburban enclaves.
The enforcement by both TTPS and EMA with 24-hour hotline quick response that remains anonymous (like crime stoppers).
The peace and quiet certainly improved mental wellness of our neighbourhood especially for retirees/sick people and students at exams.
TTPS and EMA must now do their part to ensure enforcement so noise pollution never rises to pre-COVID levels again in T&T and especially as we prepare to face another electioneering season soon.
