I wish to register my alarm at the announcement by the Minister of Health that third year medical students at the UWI St Augustine campus will be recruited to assist in the local response to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
I am sure that these medical students are sufficiently able to carry out the duties that are assigned to them, however, it is astounding that there are fully qualified medical doctors who are registered with the Medical Board, who are known by the Ministry of Health, whose skills still remain unutilised, and who were never contacted to assist in this fight as well.
Perhaps the Minister was not fully appraised of this situation. It is my sincere hope that the authorities will soon take appropriate action.
