Kester Mc Guire had a match-high 27 points on Sunday to lead South Side Players to a 52-45 win over Penal 76ers in the battle of the top teams in the South Central Zone Basketball League at the Latchoos Road Hard Court, Penal. South Side is now the only unbeaten team in the league, and has taken sole leadership in the eight team standings with 18 points from six matches.
For South Side it was not a walk in the park against Penal 76ers, as it had to rally back from three points down at the end of the third quarter 28-31.The first period ended 15-15, however, South Side, outscored 76ers 10-6 in the second to take a 25-21 advantage. Penal rebounded in the third quarter, as it held its opponents to just three points, while it scored 10, to take the lead heading into the final period.
Mc Guire went on a scoring spree in the fourth, as he helped South Side to outscore Penal 24-14, to come away with the win. Tyrell Gay added ten for the winner, while Terron Baptiste scored 16 and Franklyn Lewis nine for 76ers. The loss was Penal's first defeat in six matches, and is now on 15 points, with a match remaining.
