Seventeen-year-old Team Beacon cyclist Quincy Alexander created history for Trinidad and Tobago by topping the UCI's (Union Cycliste Internationale - International Cycling Union) list for the 2011/2012 Junior Men's World Ranking for Track Cycling. The teenager is ranked as number one individual in Sprint with 170 points, significantly ahead Javed Mounter (Barbados) and Mexican Ismael Verdugo both of whom have (130 pts) and (110 pts), respectively. With the points earned, Alexander also placed T&T as the number one nation in the UCI's Sprint Juniors World Ranking. The celebration for Alexander did not stop there, since he also made it in the top rankings for the Kilometre Time Trial, in which he ranked third and the Keirin, in which he grabbed the fifth place world ranking.

Meanwhile, Alexander continued to excel at the 2011 National Track Cycling Championships for Juniors which started off at the Arima Velodrome last Thursday. He defended his 2010 titles as National Sprint and Kilometre time trial champion. Alexander, whose cycling endeavours have led him to major successes at both national and international levels, spiraled once again towards victorious ends at the event. He continued to grab the attention of many supporters and cycling fanatics, not only because of his hard work and incredible skills on the bike but also because of the unbelievable young age at which he has been accomplishing such triumph.

At this national event, Alexander successfully retained his 2010 titles when he broke his own records, with a time of 11.17 seconds in the Flying 200 and 1.09 minutes in the Kilometre time trial (beating his times last year of 11.33 secs and 1.10 mins, respectively). These achievements will stand as an assessment in Alexander's qualification to enter the 2011 Junior World Cycling Championships, which is scheduled for August in Russia. The youngster will be gearing up for that international event, in which he has already gained some experience as a participant in the 2010 Championships, where he placed 16th out of 58 contestants in the Sprints and 11th in the Kilometre event, with a time of 1.05, just a two seconds away from the first place winner, who bagged a win with 1.03 mins.
