High Voltage proved a class above O'Meara as the former stormed into the semifinal of the Arima Basketball Knockout Competition, with a 78-57 simple win, when action continued at the Princess Royal Park Basketball Court, Arima, on Wednesday evening.
Led by top-scoring forward Shawn Lawrence, High Voltage stung O'Meara 25-12 at the end of the first period. The drubbing opened a strong comeback in the second quarter from O'Meara, which outscored High Voltage 25-17. However, O'Meara remained trailing in the third period and remained at a deficit before being shut out by 21 points in the end.
Lawrence got support from Randy Greenidge and Kegan Craig who scored 12 points each. Matthew Sheppard and Kareem Davis, meanwhile, were O'Meara's leading scorers with 18 and 11 points, respectively.
In the night's second match, La Horquetta booked the last remaining semifinal spot when the team defeated San Juan 66-54. Ronaldo Lett scored 12 points for the winning team, followed by Jeffrey Bourne who scored 11. Aaron Charles and Michael Scoon were San Juan's top players with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
La Horquetta finished the match almost untroubled. San Juan led at the end of the first period 12-11 but failed to maintain momentum as they fell out of the knockout competition.
La Horquetta's win put them into today's semifinal against Sangre Grande. The jump off is at 7 pm.
Tomorrow, the other semifinal will be staged when High Voltage meets Valencia, also at 7 pm. The final will take place on Sunday. The title match is being held in memory of Earl John, who worked as a basketball official in Arima for several years.
