Relay men reach Championships time

T&T's men's 4x400m re­lay team sur­passed the qual­i­fy­ing time for this year's World Out­door Track and Field Cham­pi­onships in Moscow, Rus­sia at the Penn Re­lays in Penn­syl­va­nia, on Sat­ur­day. The event will be held from Au­gust 10 to 18.

The quar­tet of Ren­ny Quow, Jereem Richards, Machel Ce­de­nio and Lalonde Gor­don clocked 3:02.81 in fin­ish­ing fifth, get­ting past the qual­i­fy­ing time of 3:05.00.

Quow ran the lead off leg and hand­ed over the ba­ton in sec­ond spot with a split of 45.8 be­hind the vic­to­ri­ous US Red team. Teenagers Richards (46.4) and Ce­de­nio (45.7) sped to to their best ever splits but the na­tion­al squad slipped out of the top three. Dou­ble Olympic bronze medal­list Gor­don ran strong­ly in the first 200m of the last leg but could on­ly fin­ish fifth de­spite a 44.9 split time. Ja­maica was sec­ond (3:0115), with Ba­hamas( 3:02.23 (and USA Blue (3:02.64) all fin­ished ahead of the Lon­don Olympic bronze medal­lists.

The Caribbean all-star team with Olympic and World Cham­pi­on Ki­rani James (Grena­da) and two-time Olympic gold medal­list Fe­lix Sanchez of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic was sixth.

The na­tion­al women's 4x100m of quar­ter mil­er Sparkle Mc Knight and sprint­ers Michelle Lee-Ahye, Re­yare Thomas and Nan­delle Cameron was eighth with 44.19 be­hind win­ners Ja­maica (42.42) and the USA Blue (42.65) and Red (42.66) teams.

The men's 4x400m join McK­night (women's 400m-52.17), Lendore (men's 400m-45.00), Mikel Thomas (men's 110m hur­dles-13.39), Je­hue Gor­don (men's 400m hur­dles-49.50) and Alee­sha Bar­ber (women's 10m hur­dles-13.10) who have all at­tained the qual­i­fy­ing stan­dards for the World Champs.

Wayne Davis 11(Texas A&M) cap­tured the Col­lege men's 110m hur­dles in 13.67 (-0.3) to im­prove on his fourth place fin­ish in 2012. De­on Lendore an­chored Texas A&M to vic­to­ry in the Col­lege men's 4x400m in 3:02.52. Lendore com­plet­ed the last lap in 45.1 sec­onds. Jamol James and his Ten­nesse team­mates copped bronze in the 4x100m in 40.73. Gor­don helped Zenith Ve­loc­i­ty to vic­to­ry in the Olympic men's 4x100m (39.72) run­ning he sec­ond leg.
