Double Carifta champion Mark London is among several local athletes who have attained the qualifying standards for this year's Pan American Junior Track and Field Championships carded for Medellin, Columbia on August 23-25.London has bettered the marks for the men's 800m and 1,500m, dipping under the 800m standard of 1:52.00 on two occasions.The five-time Carifta gold medallist clocked 1:51.34 to retain the Carifta boys under-20 crown in the Bahamas on April 1 and improved the time to 1:50.86 to win the Alvin Daniel Games gold on April 23.
The Zenith/Bishop High student got past the 3:58.00 1,500m standard with a personal best (pb) time of 3:69.69 in taking the Hampton Games men's title on May 26.Fellow Carifta champions Machel Cedenio and Andwuelle Wright are also among the qualifiers. Cedenio (Simplex/Presentation College-S'do) ran past the 47.30 men's 400m standards with his Carifta boys U-20 triumph of 45.93.
The 2012 London Olympian also clocked 45.99 at the TnT Elite Twightlight and 46.51 at the Carifta trials (March 2). Cedenio is currently ranked fifth in the world.Wright (Signal Hill Secondary) leaped past the 7.20 standard for the men's long jump with 7.29, which he achieved in retaining his Carifta boys U-17 title.Jonathan Farinha is a double qualifier. The 2012 Carifta boys U-17 200m champ equalled the men's 100m standard of 10.50 in finishing second in the boys U-20 event at the Hampton Games. Farinha in among three qualifiers in the shorter sprint behind Ayodelle Taffe (10.30) and John Mark Constantine (10.37).
