T&T's Richard Thompson will line up in the men's 100 metre event on the closing leg of the IAAF Diamond League in Brussels, Belgium, this evening.
Ranked fourth with six points, Thompson will feature against Diamond League 100m leading pair, Michael Rodgers (nine points) and Justin Gatlin (eight), both of the USA, along with Jamaica's Nesta Carter, who sits in third with seven points. Veteran Kim Collins of St Kitts is also in the line-up, as is Tyson Gay, who recently returned from a doping ban with a mixed series of results.
Thompson, who won just one leg of the Diamond League this season–a 10.02 effort in Oslo–is off a less-than-stellar sixth place 10.31 (-0.7) performance, which he recorded in rainy conditions at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia on Tuesday.
However, two days prior, performed closer to his best when he won the Berlin, Germany leg of the World Challenge Meeting, in 10.15 seconds (-0.2)
In the penultimate Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland, last Thursday, Thompson was also far from his best placing seventh in 10.26 seconds (wind 0.3). Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole won that race in a season-best 9.96 seconds.
