T&T's Rayad Emrit will captain the Barbados Tridents in the upcoming Champions League T20 tournament in India.Emrit takes over from countryman Keiron Pollard who led the Tridents to the Caribbean Premier League T20 title last month. Based on that performance they have landed a place at the prestigious Champions League, which gets underway in two weeks time.Pollard has opted to play for his Indian Premier League IPL team Mumbai Indians who have also qualified for the tournament.
The Tridents will also be without the services of two other main players in Dwayne Smith (Chennai Super Kings) and Shoaib Malik who have opted to play for other teams.An official close to the Tridents team said that they wanted to replace these players with other players from the Caribbean but they were told by the Champions League that they could not have chosen any player who played In the CPL for other teams. Instead they could have chosen men who were on the CPL draft but who were not chosen by any of the six Caribbean sides.It is understood that the Tridents were interested in TT Red Steel opener Evin Lewis and the St Lucia Zouks captain Darren Sammy but they were denied.
