T&T faces the starter in cycling team sprint

The na­tion­al team sprint trio of Keron Bram­ble, Njisane Phillip and Kwe­si Browne will look for more sil­ver­ware when the third leg of the 2014/2015 UCI (In­ter­na­tion­al Cy­cling Union) World Cup se­ries ped­als off to­day in San­ti­a­go de Cali, Colom­bia.

The trio won gold on Jan­u­ary 9 at the Mil­ton In­ter­na­tion­al Chal­lenge in On­tario, Cana­da. Bram­ble, Phillip and Browne were con­vinc­ing in vic­to­ry, snatch­ing gold in a time of 46.356 sec­onds. Host team Cana­da was a dis­tant sec­ond in 47.617, while the Sprint­ers Edge Club round­ed off the top three in 48.239. The trio used the Mil­ton Chal­lenge as prepa­ra­tion for the UCI World Cup.

Af­ter com­pet­ing in the team sprint to­day, Browne will line up in the men's keirin to­mor­row and Phillip will aim for a medal in the men's sprint on Sun­day. Browne and Phillip won bronze in the men's keirin and men's sprint re­spec­tive­ly at the Mil­ton In­ter­na­tion­al Chal­lenge.

In No­vem­ber 2013 at the first leg of the 2013/2014 World Cup se­ries in Eng­land, Phillip be­came the first T&T cy­clist to win a medal at the UCI World Cup. Phillip won sil­ver in the men's sprint, fin­ish­ing be­hind Ger­man rid­er Robert Forste­mann.
