Guyana Amazon Warriors batsman Lendl Simmons who scored an unbeaten 65 to lead his team to victory over the T&T Red Steel at the Providence Stadium in Guyana Tuesday night, is crediting his wife with his success.
Red Steel needing a win to march straight into the finals of the tournament on Sunday, batted first and scored 117 for eight.
Simmons then smashed 65 off 51 balls to lead Guyana home at 118/3 off 17 overs and a place in the second play-off on Saturday at the Queen's Park Oval.
Simmons has not been enjoying the best of times in this year's tournament but batted well to cop the man of the match award. Speaking on the performance he said: "I got a call from my wife Kabrina today and she reminded me of what I am capable of doing.
I went out there with that in mind and was able to get the runs on the board.
I have not been having the best of series so far as I am normally in the top three in terms of the aggregate.
My form was always there, it was just a matter of clicking. Sometimes when you are hitting the ball well, you think that you are in form, to me it is not that, form is something in your mind.
You have to tell yourself that you will get runs be positive and it will come your way. This was basically the message that my wife sent to me. "Moving onwards from here I am looking to continue in the same way and continue getting runs at the top of the order for my team. Batting in this match was difficult but in the end I was able to get through and get the runs and this has done a lot for me, moving into the semi-finals of the tournament."
Warriors will now sit and await the winners of the Red Steel and Tallawahs game today to see who they battle on Saturday.
Simmons thinks it will be the Tallawahs: "I think that Tallawahs will beat Red Steel and play us in the semi-finals. They are a dangerous team and I don't think Red Steel will get past them in there game."
