Windies toppled from top after three-week stay

DUBAI–West In­dies' stay at the sum­mit of the ICC Twen­ty20 world rank­ings has end­ed af­ter just three weeks.They were top­pled by In­dia who com­plet­ed a 3-0 se­ries sweep over Aus­tralia in Syd­ney on Sun­day by win­ning the fi­nal Twen­ty20 In­ter­na­tion­al by sev­en wick­ets.

In­dia, who will host the Twen­ty20 World Cup in March, now sit on top of the stand­ings with 120 rat­ings points–two clear of the Windies who now lie sec­ond on 118 points.

How­ev­er, the Caribbean side are on­ly nar­row­ly ahead of reign­ing World cham­pi­ons Sri Lan­ka al­so on 118 points and Eng­land, who are fourth on 117 points in what is a tight­ly bunched ta­ble.

West In­dies were el­e­vat­ed to the top spot 21 days ago when Sri Lan­ka suf­fered a 0-2 se­ries de­feat to New Zealand and lost their top rank­ing. The Windies are for­mer World cham­pi­ons af­ter win­ning the 2012 World Cup in Sri Lan­ka, when they beat the hosts in a dra­mat­ic fi­nal.

They en­ter the up­com­ing Twen­ty20 World Cup as one of the favourites af­ter se­lec­tors last week chose a full strength squad for the March 8 to April 3 tour­na­ment.
