Led by Rio Olympic Games qualifier Nigel Paul, T&T dominated its Bahamian opponents when the Tuesday Night Boxing at the Castle series continued at the residence of former West Indies batsman Brian Lara at Lady Chancellor Hill, Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday night.

The action followed a three-leg series which was held in January where T&T Olympic hopefuls were given the platform to showcase their talent. In January boxers matched their skills against boxers from Dominican Republic, Guyana and St Lucia.

All eyes were on Paul, who booked a spot in the Olympics when he won silver at the Americas Zone Boxing Olympic Qualifiers in Argentina in March. The superheavyweight did not disappoint as he won by an unanimous decision over Keshno Major in the three-round contest that brought the curtain down on the night's proceedings.

Both fighters were watchful after the opening bell with Major connecting with more of his punches. The taller Paul, who had at least six inches on Major remained watchful throughout the first round.

The crowd came alive in the second round as Paul came out aggressive, attempting a flurry of punches. However, the bout remained relatively close as Major continued to hold his corner.

In the final round, Paul utilised his long reach to good effect and earned several points which swung the match in his favour. Major, like his fellow countrymen before, used fancy footwork in the closing moments, maybe in anticipation of victory. Unfortunately for him the judges ruled in the favour of Paul.

Earlier in the night, talented national boxers Aaron Prince and Michael Alexander outclassed their Bahamian opponents to record victories by unanimous decision. Prince defeated Tyrone Oliver in a welterweight contest, while Alexander outfoxed Rudolph Regis in a lightweight encounter.

National heavyweight boxer Brendon Dennis defeated Devon Hamilton by unanimous decision, while Rasheed Williams was the lone winner for Bahamas when he got past Akiel Outram by technical knockout injury in round two as T&T defeated Bahamas 4-1 in the series.

Outram suffered an arm injury in the junior welterweight match which forced him to withdraw.

Two local bouts took place before the international bouts with Romel Lezama winning on points over Yuri Sorzano in a welterweight match up, while Anthony Joseph earned a decision over Mike Inniss in the bantamweight class.

The Tuesday Night Boxing Series is expected to continue next Tuesday with national boxers coming up against opponents from either Venezuela or USA.
