Sprint­er Nyoshia Cain-Clax­ton won T&T’s first medal at the Para­pan Amer­i­can Games at the Na­tion­al Sta­di­um in Li­ma, Pe­ru, yes­ter­day, cop­ping bronze in the women’s 200 me­tres T64 fi­nal.

The race was won by the Unit­ed States’ Syd­ney Bar­ta in a time of 28.09 sec­onds while her com­pa­tri­ot Beat­riz Hatz was sec­ond in 28.13.

Cain-Clax­ton crossed the line in 28.81 at the Ath­let­ics Sta­di­um in the Na­tion­al Sport­ing Vil­lage.

An­oth­er T&T ath­lete, Car­los Greene, mean­while placed fifth in the men’s F11 dis­cus throw with a best ef­fort of 27.76 me­tres.

That event was won by Brazil’s Alessan­dro Da Sil­va (45.34 me­tres), who bet­tered Ar­genti­na’s Alex­is Or­tiz (30.97) and Colom­bia’s Ed­win Ro­driguez (30.24).

Greene will now fo­cus his at­ten­tion on the shot put F11 event on Wednes­day.

Akeem Stew­art will open ac­tion for T&T to­mor­row in the men’s dis­cus F64.
