CAS­TRIES – As part of cel­e­bra­tions to mark the na­tion­al hol­i­day named in her ho­n­our, St Lu­cia’s sprint queen Julien Al­fred was gift­ed $75,000 and a spe­cial award in St Lu­cia on Fri­day (Sep­tem­ber 27).

Al­fred, St Lu­cia’s first-ever Olympic medal­ist and first gold medal­ist, who has been fet­ed since re­turn­ing to the is­land on Tues­day fol­low­ing her spec­tac­u­lar per­for­mance at the Paris Olympics, re­ceived the mon­ey from the St. Lu­cia Olympic Com­mit­tee (SLOC) dur­ing a pre­sen­ta­tion.

Al­fred wrote her name in­to her coun­try’s his­to­ry books last month at the Paris Olympics when she won gold in the women’s 100 me­tres and sil­ver in the 200 me­tres.

Along with the cash, the 23-year-old al­so re­ceived a spe­cial award from George Pagoulatos, the Greek Am­bas­sador to the Or­gan­i­sa­tion of East­ern Caribbean States (OECS).

Julien Al­fred Day will cul­mi­nate with a cel­e­bra­to­ry con­cert at the Daren Sam­my Crick­et Ground on Fri­day evening, where her ac­com­plish­ments will be for­mal­ly ho­n­oured.
