Marlins' Nikoli Blackman was the lone swimmer to achieve an “A” standard qualifying time when the Amateur Swimming Association of T&T Age-Group Long Course Championships concluded at the National Aquatic Centre in Balmain, Couva, on Sunday.
The meet served as the final event for selection for swimmers to the national swimming team for the 2022 Carifta Swimming Championship carded for Barbados in April.
The 16-year-old Blackman won in 15-17 Boys' 50 metres freestyle in 23.41 seconds, just under the 23.49 'A' qualifying standard and well ahead of Tidal Wave Aquatics' Johann-Matthew Matamoro (25.03) and Flying Fish's Prince Moreau (25.33).
Zachary Anthony, 14, of Marlins swam under the 13-14 Boys' 50m freestyle “B” mark of 25.56 when he touched the wall in 25.20.
In the 13-14 Boys', 200 metres backstroke, 14-year-old Giovanni Rivas (2:21.53) and Liam Carrington (2:23.76) both touched the wall under the Carifta “B” qualification time of 2:23.84 in finishing first and second respectively while Daniel Gillette (2:40.04) ended third.
Johann-Matthew Matamoro achieved a “B” time (2:17.25) in the 15-17 Boys' 200 metres backstroke when he won in 2:16.78 while in the 15-17 Boys' 1,500m freestyle Nikoli Blackman's winning time of 17:00.11 was well under the “B” mark of 17:06.28.
In the 13-14 Boys' 100m butterfly Rivas (1:01.40), and Zachary Anthony (1:01.47) both dipped under the 1:01.71 “B” time.
