A new champion was expected to be crowned in the men's Open Division of the T&T Table Tennis Association Super Singles Tournament Wednesday night after Guyana's two-time winner Shemar Britton dispatched title-holder Aaron Wilson of Carenage Blasters in the round-of-12 on Tuesday night.
Playing for a spot in the final-six round-robin series, Britton cruised to an 11-2, 12-10, 11-4 win over Wilson at the National Racquet Centre, Tacarigua.
This was after he eased past Rod Singh of Powergen 11-8, 11-1, 11-3 and France-based national Under-19 champion Malik Gopaul 12-14, 15-13, 11-8, 11-5 in the first two rounds of the main draw to secure his spot in last night's 'Top Six' alongside Everton Sorzano, Yuvraaj Dookram, Curtis Humphreys, Luc O'Young, and Derron Douglas.
Sorzano of D'Abadie Youths overcame Musaahib Newaj of Servivors 11-8, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8; Powergen's Anson Lowkie 10-12, 11-9, 11-7, 11-1 and Nikoli Barbour-Alexis 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5.

Fraser stays on course to repeat women's triumph
France-based top T&T women's player Chloe Fraser of Smalta Crusaders secured a spot in the women's 'Top Five' round-robin finals which was also to be contested last night after she dominated Arlene Joseph 11-1, 11-3, 11-2 in their last-ten encounter.
However, Fraser, 16, was expected to face a tough test in her quest to repeat as champion with local rival, Imani Edwards-Taylor of QPCC, Linda Partap-Boodhan of Tunapuna Hindu School, Carenage Blasters Elizabeth Rajah and Cuban Rosalba Aguiar the other finalists.
Edwards-Taylor, winner of the Classified Open, Silver Bowl and Tobago Open title so far this season overcame Guyana's Thuraia Thomas 12-10, 11-3, 11-8; Partap-Boodhan edge past Nakeisha Lewis 11-9, 11-6, 11-9; Rajah ousted Tunapuna Hindu Schools' Lyllana Boodhan 11-3, 11-9, 11-7 and Aguiar made light work of QPCC's Jordan Thong 11-6, 11-3, 11-2.
