Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn captured bronze in the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the Paris Olympics.

PARIS – Jas­mine Ca­ma­cho-Quinn of Puer­to Ri­co was the lone Caribbean medal­ist on the penul­ti­mate day of ac­tion at the Paris Olympics in France, Sat­ur­day.

Ca­ma­cho-Quinn, the de­fend­ing cham­pi­on, grabbed bronze in the women’s 100-me­tre hur­dles in an ex­treme­ly close fin­ish at the Stade de France.

The 27-year-old clocked 12.36 sec­onds, to fin­ish just be­hind sec­ond placed Cyre­na Sam­ba-Mayela of France in 12.34 and win­ner Ma­sai Rus­sell of the USA (12.33 sec­onds).

De­vynne Charl­ton of the Ba­hamas was sixth in 12.56 sec­onds and Ja­maica’s Ack­era Nu­gent did not fin­ish.

Else­where, in the men’s high fi­nal Ja­maica’s Ro­maine Beck­ford end­ed in 10th po­si­tion af­ter clear­ing 2.22 me­tres.

Hamish Kerr of New Zealand leapt 2.36 me­tres to claim gold, USA’s Shel­by McEwen was sec­ond af­ter clear­ing the same height, while Es­sa Barshim of Qatar copped bronze with his ef­fort mea­sured at 2.34 me­tres.

And in a dis­ap­point­ing per­for­mance, Ja­maica’s women’s 4×400 me­tres re­lay team did not fin­ish in the fi­nal.
