T&T swimmer Dylan Carter has qualified for Friday night's men's 100 metres Freestyle Open final on the second day of the annual Fran Crippen Meet of Champions at the Marguerite Aquatics Complex in Cali, California.
The 23-year-old Carter touched the wall in 49.90 seconds to trail Caleb Dressel (47.97) and Cristian Quintero (49.49), while Peter Holoda (50.16), Jesse Novak (50.21), Calvyn Justus (50.27), Vivas Mestre (50.53) and Marius Kusch (50.65) were the other qualifiers for the A-final.
Last weekend, Carter, a three-time 2018 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games gold medal winner, competed at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Clovis, California, where he reached the A-finals in the three events he contested, the 200 metres freestyle, 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
In the 100m freestyle, Carter clocked 50.08 seconds in the heat before he touched the wall in 49.64 in the final for fourth spot.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, he then got to the wall in 55.53 seconds in the 100m backstroke heats and improved on the time in the final with a 54.74 clocking for fourth as well.
And in the 200m freestyle, Carter got home in one minute, 50.01 seconds in the heat, before going 1:48.95 in the final to take the fifth spot in the eight-swimmer field.
Next up for Carter is the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea (July 12-19) and Pan American Games in Lima, Peru (July 26-August 11), after which he will turn his attention to the International Swimming League.
Earlier this week, Carter was signed up for the ISL by the LA Current and will join top swimmers Ryan Murphy, Blake Pieroni, Nathan Adrian and Kathleen Baker in the prestigious league. The competition will splash off in October before concluding in December.
